Influencing Factors of Club Activity, Relational Self and Empathy on Communication and Leadership in Nursing Students

Abstract
Purpose: This study was to identify influencing factors of club activity, relational self, and empathy on communication and leadership.

Methods: The participants were 168 students enrolled in a nursing college. Data were analyzed using frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and backward multiple regression analysis with SPSS Statistics 25.

Results: The variables that affect the communication among nursing students were shown in order of cognitive empathy (¥â=.37, p<.001), avoidance relationship of relational self (¥â=-.32, p<.001), empathy-care of relational self (¥â=.28, p=.003), grade (¥â=.19, p=.002), type of university club (¥â=-.15, p=.028), overdependence to relation of relational self (¥â=-.15, p=.044), reason of joining university club (¥â=-.14, p=.037), instrumental relationship of relational self (¥â=.14, p=.038). The variables that affect the leadership of nursing students were shown in order of cognitive empathy (¥â=.59, p<.001), instrumental relationship of relational self (¥â=.25, p<.001), avoidance relationship of relational self (¥â=-.22, p<.001), grade (¥â=.20, p=.005), openness to participate in university club (¥â=-.13, p=.021), role in university club (¥â=.12, p=.043), reason of joining university club (¥â=.12, p=.028).

Conclusion: The results of this study have shown that cognitive empathy is the a crucial factor in communication and leadership of nursing students.
